My Guiding Principles

I trust in the power of believing in oneself, recognizing our daily challenges and to never stop seeking the healthiest strategies to achieve personal success.

While there is no easy answer to the variety of learning and behavioral challenges some students may face, I am confident that with my support and guidance, they are able to stay more focused, stay on course, and stay driven to tackle the next task. From the first steps taken in this path and throughout all the various supports offered, my clients will feel empowered and successful. I work closely with them to ensure they are able to achieve their optimal potential and maintain their goals.

SELF AWARENESS

Self-awareness allows us to see things from the perspective of others, practice self-control, work creatively and productively, and experience pride in ourselves and our work along with developing a sense of self-esteem.

7 Executive

Functioning Skills

The fundamental skills related to executive function include emotional control, self-monitoring, self-control, impulse control, task initiation, flexible thinking and organization.

These competencies are essential to a child’s growth and learning.

SOCIAL SKILLS

Teaching and modeling social skills will help us better understand how to build new relationships and strengthen the ones already in place, in a positive and healthy way.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness improves the ability to pay attention or to calm down when upset and to make better decisions. This gives the space to take that moment to refocus before attempting tasks.

What types of challenges do I address?

The tasks and responsibilities that my clients find challenging and that I address may include following instructions, class routines and expectations, classroom behavior, self awareness, emotional regulation and teaching them they have the ability to respond to the ongoing demands and experiences in the classroom with the range of emotions in a manner that is socially acceptable.

Working one on one with my clients allows me to assess areas where room for improvement could be beneficialI pay particular attention to individual needs and target problematic or behavioral areas to quickly find working solutions.

The services offered are catered to the individual needs of each client.

What can you expect?

I demonstrate to clients how to break down their work into manageable pieces, guide them through their homework and how to use effective time management to lessen the overload that an academic environment can bring.

Furthermore, my clients learn how to feel comfortable asking questions and connect with their teacher. Self-advocacy skills are important to successful learning.

Equally as important, I develop my client’s social-emotional learning. Teaching them early intervention skills to deal with self-defeating thoughts, and how to replace them with positive self-talk.

During the sessions, using academics as a base, I incorporate lessons and games that improve and strengthen executive functioning skills. This is usually where the big teaching moments occur and social learning happens.  I model peer interactions and exhibit how to respond to situations, where you need to show flexible thinking, following rules and exercising patience. Gaining these skills will help build healthy friendships.

Practicing social skills lessons and emotional regulation gives my clients a chance to learn about themselves and self reflect. It also teaches how your reactions or words can make others feel.

Support for Families

Through a collaborative process with your family, your child, and myself, we will plan and set goals for the child. Your child will be able to see, and feel, that they can, and will, succeed no matter what challenges they face in life. With continuous development, your child will become more comfortable with the process, generating positive reinforcement and the more resilient your child will become. As they gain the knowledge from what my services have to offer, they will keep striving and go beyond their perceived limits.

Implementing a routine with me, will improve how your child gains independence and confidence. They will have someone supporting them who knows what the classroom expectations consist of and hold them accountable to those expectations.

FINDING SOLUTIONS TOGETHER

When a learning disability or behavior isn’t treated effectively, it can cause a number of other issues. These additional difficulties may be emotional, and a child can show signs of sadness, frustration, or disappointment. Behavior challenges like acting out might occur. Or the learning challenges may show up within the family, causing, for example, misunderstandings, increased stress, or blaming others. Studies show that among children whose families seek professional help for emotional or behavioral challenges, 30 to 50 percent of them have learning disabilities.

The number of students with special needs seems to be growing. There are more students with higher learning needs, deeper emotional struggles, and ongoing medical issues, all of  which impact learning.

How do we effectively address this growing need? We effectively address this growing need by reaching out for support by building a team for your child.

My purpose is to assist in guiding and supporting your child to balance the existing overwhelming routine of daily life. There can never be enough people on your team who are constructively working to promote overall growth. With that said, I can offer more resources from which to draw upon and ease the emotional burden that can arise from supporting students who are struggling.
